Please Read!

A few important things for parents:

- Please be sure to take a careful look at your child's GO Book and read over all the rules carefully with your child tonight. This binder will come home and travel back to school every day. It is important that your child has their binder with them at all times, as it is the primary way I keep everyone organized.

- I tried to be sure I checked every backpack this morning, but if there is something I missed today please put it in your child's GO Book tonight and remind them to show it to me in the morning. From now on, the GO Book will be where I remind students to carefully check (with my help for the first week) for anything they need to turn into me. Forms that were sent home today in the red folder should be signed and returned as quickly as possible.

- This afternoon I took some really sweet pictures of each child holding a first day of first grade sign! I would love to post them so you can see/save them to your computer if you would like, but I need to be sure I have your permission first. A permission slip will go home tomorrow. Please sign and return it as soon as possible so I can get them up this weekend. :)

- Be on the lookout for information about the behavior system I use in the classroom coming to you tomorrow as well. We will spend a lot of time setting up our class rules, discussing appropriate behavior (ie: how to sit on the rug, be a good listener, etc.) and learning about our routines/what I expect.

I think that's it! Rest up and thank you for everything! I know the first week or two can be information overload, but we will get through it together. As always, any questions or confusions- feel free to send me a message!

Our First Day

Hi Families,

What a fun filled day today was! I loved meeting and getting to know our class. Today was all about learning about our classroom, school, and each other.

We started the morning with a fun activity called "Magic Play Doh". Each student started with a ball of white play doh and I explained that it would change color if they was going to have a great year in first grade. We closed our eyes, smushed it in our hands, and to our surprise everyone's ball of dough changed to red, blue, yellow, pink or orange! :)

We spent our morning talking about things we like and getting to know each other. We also took a tour of the school and had our snacks. We read aloud a great book called First Day Jitters and talked about how even teachers get jitters about the first day of school!

After recess and lunch, we made a class chart of feelings we had starting first grade. We read aloud Wemberly Worried and did a little activity at our seats to describe our feelings. I gave everyone the option to write or draw, and they did great! We shared these on the rug together. We also read a book called the Night Before First Grade and did some writing and drawing about things we did last night to prepare for our first day.

Since Tuesdays are our days without a specialist, this gave us time to complete our first day of math. I introduced our calendar routine. Each day we go over the date, count the days of school, describe the weather, etc. After, we had some fun with pattern blocks and each student completed a graphing activity. I gave each first grader a cup of pattern blocks and they graphed the shapes to determine how many of each shape they had. This helped everyone determine which shape they had the most of. I was so pleased to see how well everyone did making a bar graph!

It sure was a fun day and I was so proud!

Welcome!

Hello sweet friends, families, and first graders!

Welcome to our classroom website! My name is Miss Waterman and I am beyond excited to be your first grade teacher! We are going to have so much fun and learn a lot this year!

Let me tell you a little bit about me. I live in a small town right outside Plymouth across from a really big farm. I love being outdoors and trying new things! My hobbies are cooking, spending time with my family, running, teaching, reading, and traveling.

I am very adventurous and love to see new places. This summer, my family and I hopped on a plane and traveled all the way across the country to San Francisco. We went to a Giant's baseball game, ate lots of seafood, and even biked across the Golden Gate Bridge. It was amazing! This is my dad and me right before we went across:

I hope you had a good summer too! I can't wait to meet you and hear all about it. If you want, leave a comment below and introduce yourself. Keep checking in too because I will post a few more things before school starts.

See you soon!!

Love,
Miss Waterman

We can't wait to see you tomorrow for our writing celebration!

Please be at school no later than 9:45. We will be starting right on time. :)

As it's looking now, we will be trying to go on our field trip tomorrow afternoon, too! Keep your fingers crossed that the rain holds off!

We've Been Walking in the Rainforest- All Among the Trees!

The past two weeks we have been learning all about the rainforest. We studied many different animals and kept a list as we learned about each one:

We also transformed our insect mural into a rainforest scene! We studied many nonfiction rainforest books and recreated all kinds of animals to fill our rainforest.

Field Trip

Hi families,

Since the rain is looking like it just doesn't want to cooperate with us, we are going to reschedule our field trip for tomorrow. I spoke to the director of Pilgrim Hall today and we made a plan to go Thursday June 13th- the afternoon after our writing celebration! The times/details will stay the same- we will leave at 12:15 (after recess/lunch) to walk there and return to school around 2:45.

For parents that were going to come with us tomorrow, please email me and let me know either way if you can come Thursday afternoon. I know some of you are already taking off time to come to school that morning for our celebration, so I completely understand if you are unable to commit to the afternoon. Also, if there are any parents that couldn't come tomorrow, but are able to come Thursday afternoon, you are more than welcome to join us! Please just be sure we have an up-to-date CORI form on file in the office. You can email me or send in a note to let me know you would like to come. :)

Have a good night everyone!
