Measurement

This week, we started a new math unit all about measurement. This is a great hands on unit! Today, we used 1 inch tiles to measure various classroom objects. The students worked in pairs to go around the room and record their measurements. We talked a lot about how we measure objects from edge to edge and how we round a length if it's not exact. They really enjoyed this and did a great job!

Poetry

In reader's workshop this week, we started our new unit in poetry. We spent the first part of the week discussing differences between poems and fiction/nonfiction books. We also discussed how poems can give us feelings, and sometimes those feelings can change depending on how the poem ends.

In yesterday's lesson, we talked about how poems can have rhyming words. We also noticed and discussed the placement of the rhyming words in poems. During independent practice, everyone read through their poetry notebooks and found examples of rhyming words in familiar poems. We will be studying more with poetry in the coming weeks!

Oviparous Animals

Hi families!! I am so happy to report that our blog is back up and running! After a little technology glitch, it is finally working again and I am able to post. I have missed sharing with you all that we have been up to. Get ready for lots of posts over the next few weeks! :)

This week in science, we learned all about oviparous animals. These are animals lay eggs and hatch from them too. We did a lot of different activities centered around these "egg"cellent animals and everyone loved learning about them. Here's a sneak peak at a sort we did to distinguish animals that are oviparous, and those that are not oviparous (viviparous).
